About MeSalt-glazed stoneware jug, decorated with applied snake-like tubes around the body. The unusual overlapping spout was inspired by a small Minoan jug from Crete. Sheila Casson altered this jug by cutting into it and folding the clay while it was still wet, before firing in the kiln.Sheila and her husband Michael (Mick) Casson established a pottery at Wobage Farm in Herefordshire in 1977. There they blended their own slips (liquid clays) and glazes. They specialised in salt-glazed stoneware which Sheila adopted in 1990. When salt was introduced to the kiln at a high temperature the distinctive colours and orange peel texture were produced.
More About Me
Do you like the unusual shape of this jug? The form was inspired by early Mediterranean wares. Salt gives the mottled texture on the surface.
