About MeCarte de visite of John Anderson Sangster, he is seated with his left arm resting on a table with a book and tassels. He is wearing a full matching suit with white shirt and a necktie. His hair is combed back neatly and he is clean shaven. A pocket watch chain can also be seen inside his waistcoat. On the reverse the photographer's print appears as well as a hand-written note in black ink: 'John Anderson Sangster / Engineer,' c.1880sPrinted on the reverse "[G and H intertwined] / ARTIST & / PHOTOGRAPHER. / H. Gordon / 3 BELMONT STREET. / ABERDEEN / THIS OR ANY OTHER PORTRAIT ENLARGED / UP TO LIFE SIZE AND PAINTED IN OIL / OR WATER COLORS TO ORDER / Extra copies can be had at reduced / price".
Part of a time capsule recovered from tenement block at 34 St Clair Street during its demolition in October 1986. The capsule was seemingly created by George Sangster, founder of the Bon-Accord Pneumatic Tool Co.
