''Following our telephone conversation with you, this afternoon, with reference to matters between us and Mr. James McBey who is now in America, we beg to confirm that the bankruptcy of Mr. G. Meyer, (formerly partner of P. & D. Colnaghi & Co... ) does not affect the financial position of our firm, or its relations with Mr. McBey, in regard to any liabilities of the firm to Mr. McBey, as these latter were, of course, taken over by P. & D. Colnaghi & Co. Ltd., when the company was turned into a limited liability Company.
That being so, when we received from Mr. McBey a cable on Dec. 12th, enquiring as to whether certain payments had been made by us for his account, we at once replied, first by cable, and, by letter.
For your information we enclose herewith, as promised, copies of these cables & letter.
Possibly the letter has not yet reached Mr. McBey, especially as we addressed it to him per a mutual friend, Mr. Sessler, in Philadelphia, Mr. McBey having cabled us from that city, but omitting any address to which we could reply. We have been expecting his reply may come, now, any day. If and when it does, we shall be happy to inform you of his reactions to our propositions. Meantime, we understand you will be cabling and writing him, reassuring him about the present position of our firm, and about our anxiety to see our indebtedness to him eventually liquidated.''
Typed on one side of paper.
