About MeLetter from James McBey to Lady Inglis, dated 30 July 1914 in response to a letter. sent by Lady Inglis on 26 July 1914. McBey tells her that he was surprised by this note and describes it as "a series of small misunderstandings based on one large misunderstanding."

The letter continues;

"It is a great pity that any acts on my part should have been taken as slight. They were not intended as such by me. It is very difficult for most of us to always act judiciously in trying circumstances, and I am no exception. I thank you for your invitation to your "at homes" and certainly should I have the wish to call at any other time, will write you beforehand. I have the honour to remain, James x."

This object is part of an archive that belonged to Marguerite McBey. As a result of her generosity, Aberdeen Art Gallery holds the largest archive of James McBey's work, including prints, drawings, sketchbooks, oil paintings and memorabilia such as this letter.
