About MeAfter serving in the Royal Air Force during World War II, Albert Irvin resumed his studies at Goldsmiths College where he subsequently became a tutor. Converted to abstraction in the mid 1950s he then concentrated on painting large canvases, using intense colour, bold shapes and novel techniques with which he set out to express profound emotion.

Albert Irvin is today best known for such monumental abstract paintings such as this work and few can fail to be impressed by it when climbing the main staircase of Aberdeen Art Gallery, where it is now on permanent display.
