About MeThis small stoneware bowl is glazed in an oatmeal slip under a dark tan glaze and has been salt-glazed to achieve a speckled appearance. It is decorated around the outside with a meandering pattern of lines and whorls.
Ray Finch was one of the UK's leading makers of tableware at the Winchcombe Pottery near Cheltenham, where he led a team of talented potters. He embedded his own work within the standard domestic ware made at the workshop and marked his work with a modified mark of WP (Winchcombe Pottery) followed by a small dot. Finch enjoyed making salt-glazed works when time allowed, however it was not produced in large quantities as salt-glazed wares were viewed as economically unviable.
