About MeThis stoneware press-moulded pie dish has two applied ribbed loop handles. It is glazed all over with an ash glaze then reddish-brown tenmoku and a final firing of golden yellow-brown spruce ash glaze which has been 'finger wiped' to create a banded pattern of tenmoku waves, dots and lines.
Edward Hughes was inspired by Michael Cardew's work and he had a great love of English slipware. Most of his decorative techniques are slipware in origin. Here he has run his finger through the wet glaze to create the bands of decoration.
