About MeThis wedding dress is thought to have been worn at St Ternan's Episcopal Church near Muchalls, in Aberdeenshire, in the 1830s. The donor’s family were fisher people from Newtonhill. The ivory calico cotton dress is printed with a floral design and features large sleeves and a bell-shaped skirt.
Women's costume at this time is characterised by enormous hats and sleeves. These elements are balanced by shorter and more pronounced bell-shaped skirts springing from a tightly laced waistline.
