About MeIn 1837, Robert Heron and his wife inherited the Fife Pottery of John Methven in Kirkcaldy. Their son, Robert Methven Heron continued their work from the early 1880s, developing a new range entitled Wemyss Ware in honour of Lady Grosvenor of Wemyss Castle. The high quality painted decoration was on a white body. Production of Wemyss Ware continued until around 1928.
Preserve jars were made in seven different shapes and sizes ranging from the tiny individual pot for the breakfast tray to the outsize one for nursery teatable. This particular example has the early swagged green rim to both pot and cover, which also appears on the bee and honey pots. The mark on the base shows that it was manufactured for the London china retailer Thos. Goode and Co.

More About Me
A finely crafted piece of Wemyss (pronounced weems) Ware from the heyday of the Fife pottery (1882-1930) - now revived by Griselda Hill Pottery and very much in demand.
