About MeThis medium store jar and cover is made from Fremington clay, a local clay from which Clive Bowen makes most of his work.
Both pieces are wood-fired and glazed in dark brown slip (liquid clay) over yellow honey glaze with a free flowing decoration of hand-painted splashed loops of yellow slip applied on three areas of the body. There is also a double band of yellow slip around neck and towards foot. The cover is similarly decorated with dark brown glaze and three concentric circles of yellow banding. The interior of jar and inside cover are both glazed in a mottled dark brown and yellow glaze.
Bowen built his own wood-fired kilns for the production of domestic earthenwares at his North Devon pottery. He makes a wide selection of useful pieces for the preparation, cooking and serving of food ranging from giant store jars to everyday pots and dishes.
