About MeThis stoneware medium-sized jar with cover is predominantly unglazed on the exterior. Inside, Svend Bayer has used a combination of pale green celadon and brown wood ash glazes, however on the exterior there are only small areas of these glazes. The spots of charcoal grey are where carbon has been trapped in the glaze during the firing process.
Svend Bayer was an apprentice at Michael Cardew's Wenford Bridge Pottery before travelling widely throughout Japan, Korea and South East Asia, studying wood-fired kilns. In 1975 he established his own pottery at Sheepwash in Devon, making wood-fired stoneware, incorporating local clays.
