About MeThis sampler has exquisite stitching and was made by Margaret Gordon in Newhall in 1823.
Margaret has sewn a moral verse on this sampler:
Beauty and wit will die
Learning will varnish away
And all the arts of life be
Soon forgot but virtue will
Remain forever
The tree with the red berries may be a rowan tree.
The red and green thread and the embroidered peacock indicate that this sampler was made in Scotland.
More About Me
The peacock at the bottom has a lot of stop signs for a tail!
