About MeThis tall stoneware jar features two lug handles and a flat lid, often known as a stool cover. Fully glazed in a brown glaze on the exterior with a green glaze inside.
The body of the jar is decorated in a sgraffito pattern, made by scratching through the surface to reveal a lower layer of a contrasting colour. The motif is known as 'Vumé Lily' named after the Vumé Pottery on the Lower Volta River, Ghana.
Made by Michael Cardew at his Wenford Bridge Pottery in Cornwall, England after he returned from working in Africa.
