About MeThis covered store jar is made from Fremington clay, a local material from which Clive Bowen makes most of his work at his North Devon Pottery. Bowen built his own wood-fired kilns for the production of domestic earthenwares and makes a wide selection of items for the preparation, cooking and serving of food ranging from giant store jars to everyday pots and dishes.
Both the jar and cover are wood-fired and glazed in yellow slip (liquid clay) over brown glaze. The jar is decorated with finger-combed wavy banding around the foot and free flowing hand-painted splashed loops of brown and green slips around the body. The cover is similarly decorated with light brown and green banding in concentric circles. Interior of jar and inside cover both glazed in dark brown.
