About MeThis stoneware ovoid vase has a short neck and a slightly flared rim. It has a pale green celadon glaze, brown and black wood ash glaze and orange shino glaze. Svend Bayer often uses this combination of glazes to decorate his work. There is an oval unglazed area on the centre of one side and four small unglazed circles just above the base.
Svend Bayer was an apprentice at Michael Cardew's Wenford Bridge Pottery before travelling widely throughout Japan, Korea and South East Asia, studying wood-fired kilns. In 1975 he established his own pottery at Sheepwash in Devon, making wood-fired stoneware, incorporating local clays.
