About MeThis sherd of pottery was found during an excavation at the Carmelite friary in Aberdeen. It is the rim of a stoneware jug made in Langerwehe, Germany between Aachen and Cologne. This was a well-known area for pottery production in the medieval period.

The earliest reference to potters is in 1324 which is likely to be about the time true stoneware was first made there. Stoneware is pottery fired to temperatures over about 1200 degrees centigrade.
