About MeThis linen sampler was stitched by Mary Margaret Payne in 1827 and has a green cross stitch border.
The upper section comprises blue alphabets and numerals interspersed with green bands of crossstitch patterns including Greek key pattern.
Religious and moral verses often appear on samplers to demonstrate the piety and good character of the sewer. There is a verse stitched on this sampler:
Teach me to feel another's woe
to Hide the faults I see
that mercy I to others show
that mercy show to me.
