About MeEarthenware oval press-moulded dish with pie-crust edges. The inside is glazed in a dark brown, almost black, glaze which is decorated with white slip-trailed stripe across the centre and a wavy line on each sloping side. The interior has a galena (lead) glaze and the exterior is unglazed.
This is an early example of work by Ray Finch who joined Winchcombe Pottery in 1936 and was left in charge when Michael Cardew moved to Wenford Bridge, Cornwall, in 1939. After the Second World War Finch purchased the pottery and with his small team built a reputation for high quality craft pottery and domestic wares.
