About MeRound bowl-shaped colander with coiled lug handles which have been applied on either side of the bowl. Drainage holes were punched through the walls and foot before the clay hardened. The exterior is glazed in a brown salt glaze whilst the inside is glazed a yellow-green wood ash glaze.Sheila and her husband Michael (Mick) Casson established a pottery at Wobage Farm in Herefordshire in 1977. There they blended their own slips (liquid clays) and glazes. They specialised in salt-glazed stoneware which Sheila adopted in 1990. When salt was introduced to the kiln at a high temperature the distinctive colours and orange peel texture were produced.
More About Me
Common salt thrown into the kiln in the high temperature phase of the firing produces salt glazes when the sodium in salt and silica in clay combine as glossy sodium silicate. Science!
