About MePickard makes hand-built tableware in soft, malleable clay with a crackle glaze; a form of decoration that originated in China but can also be found in Japanese ceramics. Pickard does speak of traditional Japanese and Oriental folk pottery having an influence on her work, certainly in terms of decoration and perhaps shape. She is also particularly concerned with the ordinariness of everyday objects, whilst at the same time being aware of the special quality of individual handcrafted pieces of pottery.

The object might look fairly ordinary, but the care and attention required to handcraft it is extraordinary.
