About MeThis earthenware dish is press-moulded, a technique where a flat sheet of clay is forced into a mould to take on the shape of the mould. This method is used to create shapes which would be difficult to throw on the wheel. The crimped piecrust edge was added before the dish was fired in the kiln.
Press-moulded dishes were amongst the first pieces Ray Finch made when he joined Winchcombe Pottery in 1936. They were very successful and continued in production when the pottery re-opened in 1946 after World War Two. This example has a white slip-trailed decoration comprising three straight lines across the centre with one wavy line above and one wavy line below. Both the exterior and base are unglazed.
