About MeThis charger or large dish was hand-thrown on the potter's wheel by Edward Hughes. It is glazed with wood ash collected by Hughes from "Red How" in the village of Lamplugh, west Cumbria, near Hughes's pottery.

He frequently used ash gathered from various places close to the pottery to achieve rich colours when the piece was fired at a high temperature in a reduction kiln. In this example he has combined the wood ash glaze with a rich iron slip and fired the charger in the hottest part of the kiln to create a remarkably deep olive glaze, streaked with turquoise blue towards the centre.
