About MeThis stoneware sake bottle is glazed all over with a thick blue and white streaked wood ash glaze incorporating ash from the Robin Hood Sawmill over a pale beige-brown glaze.
Hughes frequently used ash gathered from various places close to his pottery in Cumbria to achieve rich and flowing colours when the piece was fired at a high temperature in a reduction kiln. For this vase he used wood ash obtained from his local sawmill, to create a glaze which he named "Robin Hood sawmill ash".
