About MeSmall circular stoneware plate or dish with light green wood ash glaze and splashes of iron brown tenmoku glaze. The pieces is decorated in a white slip with a ribbon wave within three bands.
Edward Hughes frequently incorporated wood ash, obtained from local hardwoods, in his glazes. When fired at a high temprature the glazes achieved rich mottled colours, reflecting the Cumbrian landscape where Hughes lived and worked.
