About MeA fluted glazed all over with mottled hawthorn ash glaze over a red iron slip which is visible around the rim edges.
Hughes frequently used ash gathered from various places close to his pottery in Cumbria to achieve rich colours of glaze when the piece was fired at a high temperature in a reduction kiln.
