About MePorcelain small footed bowl covered all over in a dark brown tenmoku glaze with reddish-brown rim. Tenmoku glaze is generally treacle-brown or lustrous black in colour. The bowl is decorated with two splashes of irridescent brown ilmenite, one on the exterior and the other on the inside, both lining up to create a repeating pattern. Ilmenite is a titanium iron-oxide mineral which creates an irridescent brown glaze when fired in a reduction kiln. The glaze appears to have been applied over the tenmoku with the thumb and pulled down to create a splash.
