About Me
This tall store jar and cover are made from Fremington clay, a local clay from which Clive Bowen makes most of his work.
Both pieces are thrown on a wheel, wood-fired and then decorated in the tradition of English slipware using a palette of mustard yellow and rust brown glazes.
The jar is divided into four panels, two decorated with a leafy plant and the other two with a fish and a prawn. Combed banding around the neck and lower section of the body is also repeated on the cover.
Bowen built his own wood-fired kilns for the production of domestic earthenwares at his North Devon pottery. He makes a wide selection of useful pieces for the preparation, cooking and serving of food ranging from giant store jars to everyday pots and dishes.
