About MeThis straight-sided tankard of slightly tapering form is made from Fremington clay, a clay local to Clive Bowen's North Devon Pottery, from which he makes most of his work. He makes a wide selection of useful pieces for the storage, preparation, cooking and serving of food and drink, ranging from giant store jars to everyday dishes, jugs and mugs.
The mug is thickly potted with distinct potting rings. and the pulled strap handle with thumb piece features a coiled scroll terminal pulled from the base.
It is glazed all-over in a dark brown slip (liquid clay) with speckled yellow glaze on the outside and handle, stopping short of the foot where it meets a band of brown iron glaze. It is also decorated with eight roundels applied regularly around the body and glazed in green and iron brown.
