About MeThis sherd of pottery was found in a wall foundation trench during the 1994 excavations at the Carmelite friary in Aberdeen. Attached to both side of it is a circular lump of lead. It is possible that this lead was used to mend this vessel.
The lump of lead is round and smooth and does not appear to have got on to the pot by mistake. Lead was used to mend pottery vessels elsewhere in Britain in the medieval period, but this is the first known example from Aberdeen.
