About MeThis sherd of pottery was found during the excavations at the Carmelite friary in Aberdeen in 1994. It is a piece of German stoneware made in either Frechen or Cologne in the 16th century.
Cologne and Frechen are situated 10km apart and both had flourishing pottery industries in the 16th century. It is recorded that Frechen potters moved to Cologne in the early 16th century, probably to take advantage of an expanding industry in that area.
