About MeA red earthenware small open bowl with gently flared sides and rolled rim. The inside is glazed in yellow and dark brown slips (liquid clay) over a white Galena glaze. Galena is a lead based glaze which achieves a bright gloss finish. A sgraffito (scratched) pattern of yellow and brown waved bands runs around the inner rim. The dark brown glaze runs over the rim and down half of the outside leaving the lower half unglazed.
The bowl was made at Winchcombe Pottery and is attributed to Elijah Comfort who rarely marked or decorated his work. In 2001 Ray Finch confirmed that he decorated the bowl around 1937.
