About MeThis cylindrical jar and cover are made from Fremington clay, a clay local to Clive Bowen's North Devon Pottery, from which he makes most of his work.
Both jar and cover are glazed in a mottled brown and honey gold glaze with a brown glazed interior. Combining the techniques of finger combing and sgraffito (scratching) Bowen has decorated the jar with three motifs - a leaping fish, a leafy plant and a prawn - each set within individual panels. These motifs are a frequent choice of decoration on Bowen's store jars. The cover is decorated with a spiral of brown over yellow slip and a series of yellow and brown waved bands around the edge.
