About MeThis square stoneware box with cover is slab-built. Glazed inside and out in mustard yellow-green ash glaze. The cover, which sits snuggly over a rim on the base, is decorated with diagonal bands of feathered yellow-green slip resist under a dark celadon glaze.

Hughes frequently used ash gathered from various places close to the pottery to achieve rich colours of glaze when the piece was fired at a high temperature in a reduction kiln. For this box he used wood ash obtained from his local sawmill, to create a glaze which he named "Robin Hood sawmill ash".
