About MeRed earthenware jug with bulbous body, short straight neck, pronounced lip and angular thin handle modelled in the Aesthetic style.
It is glazed all over in a purple and green lustre with a golden yellow streaked glaze from the rim to the shoulders of the body and on the upper section of the handle. The streaked glaze continues on the inside of the neck.
This jug was made at the Linthorpe Pottery Works where the renowned designer Christopher Dresser was the Director of Design from 1879 to 1882. The Linthorpe Pottery was one of the first potteries to utilise glazes as a purely decorative feature with many of its characteristic glazes being influenced by Dresser's four month visit to Japan in 1876-1877.
The jug was made by casting in a plaster mould. The mould number, 782 HT, is marked on the base.
