About MeThis straight-sided tankard is made from Fremington clay, a clay local to Clive Bowen's North Devon Pottery, from which he makes most of his work. He makes a wide selection of useful pieces for the storage, preparation, cooking and serving of food and drink, ranging from giant store jars to everyday dishes, jugs and mugs.
It is glazed all-over in a reddish-brown slip (liquid clay) with yellow ochre glaze on the outside and handle, stopping short of the foot where it meets a band of brown glaze. The mug is decorated with five roundels applied regularly around the body and glazed in green.
