About MeThis barrel-form cask is made from Fremington clay, a local clay from which Clive Bowen makes most of his work.at his Devon pottery. Bowen makes a large range of domestic wares from this clay including storage jars, jugs and dishes for preparing, cooking and serving food. This cask was made to hold a liquid, such as oil, for culinary use.
The main body of the cask is cylindrical, wheel-thrown, with one flat face and the other rounded. The foot has been formed as a separate collar and applied to the side of the cylinder. The neck has been fixed to the other side with a prominent join and a hole to the body cut through.
It is glazed in a honey yellow and brown speckled slip glaze with a combed decoration of brown waved and plain bands around the body.
